Great Sunday at Lauro Golf celebrating both the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth and the Danish Constitution Day.
Four big events took place simultaneously last Sunday June the 3rd in the premises of Lauro Golf celebrating both the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth and the Danish Constitution Day.
The Lawn Bowls Club, La Risa Bar and the Golf Academy commemorated the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s coronation, while Lauro Golf held a Tournament celebrating the Danish Constitution Day
The biggest party was held at the Golf Academy, with more than 1000 participants, mostly formed by families with children. This event was organized by the Charity Family Fun organization with the aim of helping several charity associations of the area such as AID, the Brownies, LIVE, DEBRA, 4 Paws Adoption, Ray of Light and Age Concern.
The program included a Kidz Inland children’s Sports Day, bouncy castles, a junior golf putting competition, Beachwear fashion show, Family of Sound music show, donkey rides, tarot reading, a Wildside Forest School workshop, Cheerleading demo, Colmenar Craft stall plus a whole range of games and activities for the kids topped with live music from Costa Rock. Regarding the food, this was offered by local suppliers from the Big Lunch recipe book and included traditional British fare such as Coronation Chicken, barbecue and cupcakes combined with paella, curry and patties. With less impact but not less joy Lauro Golf Bowls Club and “La Risa” Bistro bar, also paid tribute to the British Crown with live music and dance. Finally Lauro Golf Club held the XX edition of the Danish Constitution Day Tournament. Spanish and international art fusion demonstration gathered together in the Great Danish Constitution Day, where all times songs and flamenco artists were the centerpieces of this great event.
The Irish singer and guitarist Paddy Mac together with a fantastic flamenco group were in charge of entertaining the participants during the fabulous buffet lunch prepared by Restaurant Mama Luchía Golf.
It's been already 20 years since the first issue of this tournament, celebrated the same year of the opening of the club, making it the oldest tournament in Lauro Golf. Its aim apart from offering a great day of Golfing is to bring together the Danish community within the Andalusian Golf area. Despite of the hot weather, the conditions of the tournament were fantastic: lots of participants, nearly a hundred players, and an excellent organization. The modality was individual Stableford, with four categories according to handicap: two Danish categories and two for the rest of nationalities with four and three prizes each, six prizes for the nearest to the pin and two prizes for the longest drive. The president of Lauro Golf, Tove María Pedersen, a Dane herself, was the person in charge of the organization of the tournament together with the caddy masters of Lauro Golf. Since early morning she was welcoming all the players at Lauro Golf patio, which was decorated with Danish flags. At mid-morning she went round offering refreshments and snacks very welcomed by all the players. The festive music and the flamenco show entertained the players whilst they were having their buffet-lunch, just before the prize giving ceremony and the following raffle. Ceremony conducted by the President Tove Pedersen and the recently retired Danish Vice-Consul in Málaga, Annette Sahlertz de Fernández, a great supporter of this tournament, who gave a little speech thanking the club and the organization for this tribute to the Danish people. The event concluded with the Danish hymn sung by participants and guests. The main sponsors of the tournament were the Nordea bank, Zettec and ScanTransport who offered numerous prices. Many pictures were taken on the day that will remain in the memories of those present as one of the most memorable days in the means of festivities, atmosphere and crowd ever to be seen at Lauro Golf.
