LAURO GOLF SUPPORTS WITH A CHARITY TOURNAMENT THE BRITISH CEMETERY

With a temperature of 37 º in the shade and under a blazing sun the "I Charity Tournament for the British Cemetery" was successfully hold at Lauro Golf. Neither the high temperatures or the suffocating heat did not discourage the busy group of golfers to participate and support this event with their presence and solidarity.

For many of you who don’t know the English Cemetery yet, it should be said that it is the first Protestant cemetery in Spain dating from 1831. The city of Malaga is proud to promote the English cemetery as the 'fifth botanical garden', with more than 50 species of exotic trees, and a lovely  Anglo-Saxon and romantic style.

The Anglican churchyard of Spain admitted not only English, it is now possible to find names on the tombstones of many famous people such as the Hispanist Gerald Brenan or the Spanish poet Jorge Guillén. The cemetery has been partially restored thanks to the efforts of the former British Consul Mr. Bruce McIntyre, who has even set up a foundation to supppor it; and in this occasion he counted with the collaboration of Lauro Golf the Golf Club at Alhaurin de la Torre.
The host club altruistically decided that the full amount of green fees would be donated in total  to the cemetery. Furthermore, this competition could be held thanks to the generous collaboration of the sponsors, these are: Viveros Guzmán. Unlimited Magic Show, Aquapark Mijas, El Cartojano, Mijas Golf, Alhaurin Golf, Restaurant Beirut, Restaurant La Reina Zíngara, Restaurante La Alegría, among others.

Three were the tournament winners, who received their deserved prizes from the hands of Mr McIntyre as well as from Melissa Gallardo and Ruth Maestre both Lauro Golf caddy masters. These were: Jeff Cooper with 38 points and Mike Furnival followed by Juan Luis Campuzano with 35 points each.

After the prize giving it took place a magnificient raffle in which each player had the possibility to win one of the fantastic prizes. Finally both the lucky and the non lucky ones in the raffle went home with the satisfaction of having contributed their bit for the conservation of this unique cemetery that is part of the history of Malaga. For those who do not know this place yet, do not miss the opportunity to visit it in the Pries Avenue, known as "The glen of the English" in Malaga.
