Members of Lauro Golf join together to walk the way of St James

Tells the history that the Pilgrims to Santiago came from all parts and places guided by the Milky Way. Following the Way of the Stars, they arrived at the Field of Stars, where St. James lies. Last March 26th, coinciding with a “Jacobean year”, thirteen members from this golf club of Alhaurín de la Torre, headed to Santiago de Compostela as six of them did last year. This heterogeneous group that named themselves "the golf-os from Málaga" was formed by people of different nationalities, including: Spanish, Icelandic, Netherlands, English, Danish, Trinidad and Tobago, each of them with different reasons for their pilgrimage.

Lauro Golf was the place chosen by this group of pilgrims as a departure point for this emotional journey. The first night they stopped at the monumental city of Salamanca, and touched the statue of the rabbit in stone situated on the main facade of the Cathedral. The tradition tells that it brings good luck to those who touch it and offers protection to the pilgrims who begin their journey.

Among the nine ways leading to Santiago, the thirteen travellers had no doubt in choosing the so-called "French way", but in this case leaving from the “Rua Maior de Sarria”, the kilometer 0 of their pilgrimage to Compostela. Sarria is located very close to the mythical and last 100 miles, the minimum distance to be traveled on foot to win the "Compostela", the document which certifies the St James pilgrimage for religious or spiritual purposes, and serves as a recognition to have completed the “Camino”. In order to get it, they must show the pilgrim passport, which needs to be stamped with the date and places they have been along the route, such as for example in the shelters where they have stopped.

During the trip the group made several stops, such as Portomarin, Palas de Rei, Arzúa and Arca, and other beautiful places where they received the stamps for the different stages in each of their pilgrim passports, and where they had the possibility of exchange and share experiences with other pilgrims.

They finally reached their destination, and at the Cathedral all agreed to enter holding hands, gesture of harmony and cordiality which had accompanied them throughout their journey. They received the "Compostela", plus a diploma with their respective names written in Latin. After completing their mission of seven days under not very favorable weather conditions; but happy and satisfied, our pilgrims began their journey back to Lauro Golf, putting an end to this journey of 2500 kms full of anecdotes and stories to tell their family and friends.
